As reflected in our
Mission Statement
and Guiding
Principles, The
Argus Press is
dedicated to
providing superior
quality printed
products and
services of
exceptional value to
its customers. As a
result, we have
earned an excellent
reputation as a
successful, major
Chicago-area
sheetfed commercial
printer.
The company was
established in 1922
on the north side of
Chicago. Argus moved
to Niles in 1973
because of a need
for larger and more
efficient space. In
1985, the firm was
purchased by two
officers of the
company – former
company president
Joseph M. Jensen and
sales manager Allan
R. Bartel. With this
change in ownership,
the company had
experienced
substantial growth
and made major
improvements in its
facility and
equipment. In 1997,
The Argus Press
became part of
Premier Print
Holdings which is
currently managed by
Nationwide Graphics,
based in Houston,
Texas.
Today,
the company is guided by a Senior Management Team
comprised of Mike Ford, president and sales manager;
Kurt Kunde, the director of operations; and controller
Jeannette Weiss. Each person contributes through their
own area of expertise to develop consensus decisions
supporting our corporate goals and mission. Constant
evaluation of our customers' needs and a continuing
focus on our strengths provides the course for our
ongoing plans for success.
Argus is a leader in
the newest
technologies and has
planning and
management processes
to see that this
continues. We are
members of visionary
organizations such
as The Graphic Arts
Technical
Foundation, National
Association of
Printing Leadership,
Printing Industries
of America, and The
Printing Industry of
Illinois/Indiana. We
have education and
information programs
to help customers
improve their skills
and knowledge. This
includes seminars
along with in-house
and on–site
training.
As a full service
printer operating
around the clock,
our capabilities
cover prepress,
printing, bindery,
eFulfillment, and
shipping.
Our prepress
operations have seen
revolutionary
changes in recent
years. Currently our
customers’ jobs come
to us in electronic
files. To handle
this work we have an
electronic prepress
department equipped
with a high-end
computerized
processing and
imaging system as
well as MAC and PC
workstations. This
is complemented by
high-resolution
scanners, automatic
film processors,
second-generation
computer
to-plate-technology
with automatic plate
processing and
several forms of
prepress digital
color proofing.
A full range of
presses are capable
of handling a wide
variety of work from
one to six colors.
This includes large
six color presses
with aqueous coating
and perfecting
capabilities.
In-house post-press
capabilities are
similarly
comprehensive:
folding, stitching,
trimming, scoring,
punching,
die-cutting,
perforating,
pick-n-pack, and
eFulfillment are all
done with Argus
equipment and
personnel.
With the
installation of a
comprehensive
management
information system,
we have an
integrated and
automated system of
accounting,
estimating,
purchasing, order
entry, scheduling,
and job costing.
An experienced sales
and customer
service/production
staff provide the
vital link to an
active customer base
of some 260 accounts
...and it’s growing.
In summary, great
people, high
quality,
versatility,
dependability,
on-time delivery,
and an excellent
customer base all
add up to a very
successful company:
The Argus Press.
